Explore Pamukkale and Hierapolis on a full-day tour from Antalya. Walk barefoot on the iconic white travertine terraces, discover 2,000-year-old Roman ruins, swim in thermal pools and enjoy a traditional Turkish lunch — a complete UNESCO World Heritage experience.
Pamukkale — “Cotton Castle” in Turkish — is one of Turkey’s most photographed natural wonders, and it is within reach on a full-day tour from Antalya. The white calcium terraces, formed over millennia by thermal springs cascading down the hillside, sit alongside the ancient city of Hierapolis — a remarkably well-preserved Roman spa city with theatres, temples, baths and colonnaded streets. Starting from Antalya with a comfortable 2.5–3 hour scenic drive, this tour combines the natural spectacle of the travertines with a professionally guided walk through one of Turkey’s most significant archaeological sites.
• Walk barefoot on Pamukkale’s white travertine terraces
• Guided tour of Hierapolis ancient city — Roman theatre, Apollo Temple and baths
• Swim in natural thermal pools at the travertine terraces
• Optional swim in Cleopatra’s Antique Pool among submerged Roman columns
• Traditional Turkish open-buffet lunch included
• UNESCO World Heritage Site — one of Turkey’s most visited destinations
• Hotel pickup and return transfer from Antalya included
Your day begins with an early hotel pickup in Antalya and a comfortable drive of approximately 2.5–3 hours through the Anatolian countryside. The landscape transitions from the Mediterranean coast to the inland plateau — olive groves, small towns and the flat plains of Denizli province. The white streak of Pamukkale appears on the hillside before you arrive, glowing even from a distance.
The first stop is lunch — a generous open-buffet meal at a local restaurant, giving you energy for the afternoon ahead. Then the site opens up: the lower entrance to Pamukkale, where the travertine terraces begin. Shoes must be removed before stepping onto the terraces (required to protect the calcium formations) — and the sensation of walking barefoot on warm, smooth mineral rock over shallow thermal pools is unlike anything else. The water is warm, the formations brilliant white, and the views down the hillside and across the valley are extraordinary.
Above the terraces, the ruins of Hierapolis spread across the plateau. Founded in the 2nd century BC as a thermal health resort, the city became one of the most important in the Roman province of Asia. Your guide leads you through the site: the Roman theatre, carved into the hillside and remarkably preserved; the Apollo Temple and the nearby Plutonium — the legendary sacred cave; the ancient colonnaded main street; and the extensive necropolis, one of the largest in the ancient world.
After the guided section, free time allows you to revisit your favourite spots or — for an extra entrance fee — swim in the Cleopatra’s Antique Pool, where warm mineral water flows among half-submerged Roman columns. Whether this is historical fact or legend, the experience of swimming there is genuinely special.
The return drive to Antalya takes approximately 2.5–3 hours, arriving in the early evening.
